Meet Our Student Leaders

2024-25 LSAMP Student Leaders

Madeline Badillo, LSAMP STEM Ambassador starting in fall 2023.

Madeline Badillo, Environmental and Ecosystem Sciences

Hello, my name is Madeline Badillo, I am from Kennewick, Washington. I am a fifth-year student and a transfer student from Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Washington, majoring in Environmental and Ecosystem Sciences. My parents work in agriculture, and I would accompany them when I was younger; time outdoors led me to develop an appreciation for nature, leading me to select my major. During my free time, I enjoy cooking, baking, reading, and sewing.

Joan “Jo” Castaneda, Chemistry and Molecular Biochemistry

Jo Castaneda, bridge leader for LSAMP starting in spring 2024.

Hello, I am Joan “Jo” Castaneda, I am currently a junior on my five-year track majoring in chemistry and molecular biochemistry. Aside from being involved in LSAMP, I am a part of the WSU NIH MARC Program, Multi-Cultural Greek Life, Palouse Discovery Science Center, and more. I plan on attending graduate school after undergrad to pursue my PhD in Organic Chemistry and eventually lead my own research lab at an institution while also mentoring the next generation of scientists and advocating for underrepresented students in STEM. Some of my favorite things include anything horror (movies, books, etc.), movies, music, sunsets, science, hiking, and going on walks.

Zambak Colak, Civil Engineering

Zambak Colak, LSAMP Student Leader starting in fall 2024.

My name is Zambak. I am a senior studying Civil Engineering and I transferred from Edmonds College. I have recently worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant in a concrete lab, and over the summer I was a Field Engineer Intern, working with Aecon on the I-90/SR-18 traffic improvement project. I can usually be found in Sloan Hall. Otherwise, I like to spend my time with LSAMP. If I am not in class or doing homework, I like to hang out with my dog. I am excited to be an LSAMP Mentor/Ambassador and to be of support to my fellow community members.
