WSU LSAMP Student Leaders

Our student WSU LSAMP Student Leaders serve as mentors and leaders on the WSU campus in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

WSU LSAMP Student Leaders help LSAMP Scholars at community colleges. They also mentor WSU incoming first-year and new transfer students plus current WSU LSAMP students. In addition, they:

Connect with research opportunities and resources.
Assist in the planning and implementation of workshops and events for the WSU LSAMP program.
Serve as mentors to summer Bridge Workshop participants.
Create a comfortable, welcoming community for all students in WSU LSAMP.

LSAMP Student Leaders are expected to:

Regularly communicate with community college scholars and incoming first-year and new transfer students.
Co-coordinate WSU LSAMP activities such as workshops and social events.
Participate in weekly meetings with the director on leadership topics.

Amelia Ramirez Vargas, Neuroscience Pre-Med

My name is Amelia Ramirez Vargas. I am from Zillah, WA, and I am currently a junior studying Neuroscience/Pre-Med. After graduating from WSU, I plan on attending medical school to become a physician and specialize on cardiothoracic surgery. Aside from being a student, I enjoy doing research, playing tennis, reading, listening to music, puzzle solving, traveling, spending time with my family and friends, and of course… I love science.

Ania Manzilla, Mechanical Engineering

Good day, I am Ania Manzilla. I’m currently a junior majoring in Mechanical Engineering and minoring in Math. In addition to LSAMP, I have been involved in ASME and SWE at WSU. Outside of academics, my favorite hobbies include illustrating, watching movies, and playing video games with my friends.

Ashley Cervantes, Genetics and Cell Biology

Hello, my name is Ashley Cervantes. I am a third-year student majoring in Genetics and Cell Biology with a minor in Spanish. I have been part of the Oatley Lab since my first year at WSU. I plan to attend graduate school and pursue a career in biomedical sciences. I am also part of the WSU GenAction Club and a WSU TMP Scholar. In my free time, I like to watch sports (football, basketball, etc.), drink matcha, travel, and learn new languages.

Sasha Green, Public Health

Hi, I’m a 5th year transfer student. I’ve gone through a lot of changes with what I wanted to study and future career goals, but that just means I have a lot of experience with different majors, everything from anthropology to pre-med. Currently, I’m a Public Health major with a concentration in infectious diseases, and my goal is to continue my education and go to grad school. I have my own independent research project that I started last year and am continuing to work on and collect data. Along with LSAMP, I’m involved with WSU McNair, TRIO, and I’m also a peer mentor for the Office of Undergraduate Research. However, you can always find me studying at CUE 403. When I’m not doing school stuff, I love hanging out with my friends (who are the other student leaders), eating, sleeping, and going to fun events around campus.
